The 'father of fractal geometry' has died this week aged 85. I've always thought these pictures hold a magic not seen in any other place. That they appear from simple equations and go on forever in complexity we can't fathom is just mind blowing.
I remember downloading a free fractal program once and mucking about with it for hours. The shapes that are created are so beautiful and intriguing, truly like looking into the mind of God!
:)
I remember writing a program in BASIC on the Sinclair Spectrum to plot the Mandlebrot set... It took about 12 hours to run!
